Heater Core Replacement Procedures

Instrument Panel Removal
CAUTION: Electronic modules are sensitive to static electrical charges and may be damaged If exposed to static charges.
NOTE : The heater core and evaporator core are not serviced individually. The entire housing must be replaced if either component is defective.
- Drain the cooling system.
- Recover the A/C refrigerant, if equipped.
- Disconnect the negative battery cable.
- Disable the air bag system.
- Remove the floor console.
- Remove the 2 door scuff plates.
- Remove the 2 lower A-pillar upper and lower trim panels.
- Remove the instrument cluster.
- Secure the steering wheel in the straight ahead position, then disconnect the steering shaft to steering column pinch bolt.
- Disconnect the left side instrument panel bulkhead connector and remove the instrument panel support bolt.
- Disconnect the antenna inline connector and the 4 instrument panel electrical connectors from the right side.
- Remove 2 instrument panel center support screws and 3 support bolts.
- Through the instrument panel cluster opening, remove the instrument panel cowl top bracket nut.
- Remove the 2 lower instrument panel support bolts.
- Remove the 2 instrument panel end panels.
- Remove the 4 instrument panel upper support bolts.
- Using the help of an assistant, remove the instrument panel.
- Clamp off and disconnect the 2 heater hoses at the heater core.
- Disconnect the 2 evaporator core nuts and disconnect the fitting.
- Remove the 2 heater core housing nuts at the dash panel.
- Disconnect the antenna cable from the housing.
- Remove the inside evaporator housing nuts.
- Remove the heater core/evaporator housing.

To install:
- Install the heater core/evaporator housing.
- Install the inside evaporator housing nuts and tighten to 44 inch lbs. (5 Nm).
- Connect the antenna cable from the housing.
- Install the 2 heater core housing nuts at the dash panel and tighten to 62 inch lbs. (7 Nm).
- Connect the 2 evaporator core nuts and connect the fitting.
- Connect the 2 heater hoses at the heater core.
- Using the help of an assistant, install the instrument panel.
- Install the 4 instrument panel upper support bolts and tighten to 15 ft. lbs. (20 Nm).
- Install the 2 instrument panel end panels.
- Install the 2 lower instrument panel support bolts and tighten to 80 inch lbs. (9 Nm).
- Through the instrument panel cluster opening, install the instrument panel cowl top bracket nut and tighten to 80 inch lbs. (9 Nm).
- Install 2 instrument panel center support screws and 3 support bolts.
- Connect the antenna inline connector and the 4 instrument panel electrical connectors from the right side.
- Connect the left side instrument panel bulkhead connector and install the instrument panel support bolt and tighten to 15 ft. lbs. (20 Nm)..
- Connect the steering shaft to steering column pinch bolt and tighten to 18 ft. lbs. (25 Nm).
- Install the instrument cluster.
- Install the 2 lower A-pillar upper and lower trim panels.
- Install the 2 door scuff plates.
- Install the floor console.
- Enable the air bag system.
- Connect the negative battery cable.
- Fill the cooling system.
- Recharge the A/C system.
- Start the engine and check for leaks.
